The cherry tomato is a variety of the well-known Pachino tomato. It originated in Italy and is a very recent vegetable, first cultivated in 1989.

It gets its name from its shape, which resembles that of a cherry.

The fruits are round, bright red, and grow in clusters. The ideal climate for growing cherry tomatoes is southern Italy, where temperatures hover around 25 degrees Celsius.

Sown in March, they are harvested in late spring.
